| Making
A Difference
The Parkland Stewardship Program provides educational
and on-farm services to help its members understand how they
can protect habitat within working landscapes. Whether you
want to explore conservation opportunities on your lands,
or would like to address an environmental issue in your community,
the Parkland Stewardship Program can help you with those first
steps. Participation is voluntary, the cost is free, making
a difference begins with you.
Best Management Practices:
Best (or Beneficial) Management Plans (BMP)s are a set of
guidelines a producer can use to mitigate the environmental
impact of his or her operation. Agricultural Best Management
Practices may include:
- Nutrient (Manure and Fertilizer) Management
- Integrated Pest Management
- Erosion Control
- Pasture Management
- Conservation Tillage
- Riparian Area Conservation
Producers need to evaluate which BMPs would be most valuable
on their farm, based on their environmental, social, and economic
goals. The Parkland Stewardship Program can help a producer
develop a set of BMPs for their farm, tailored to their individual
needs.
Community Based Stewardship:
The health of our environment begins with you, and your community.
By working cooperatively with individuals, community groups,
and local municipalities, the Parkland Stewardship Program
provides the framework for making informed land use decisions.
Whether you are interested in learning more about ways to
include wildlife habitat conservation on your farm, or would
like to see your community come together to clean up a local
stream or wetland, the Parkland Stewardship Program has a
variety of important resources to offer.
