Knowledge
Operation Grassland Community has been priveledged to
work with our members - a diverse and passionate group of
environmental stewards. These land stewards have provided
OGC with unique insights and significant knowledge on balanced
approaches to protecting and enhancing prairie habitats. This
knowledge has enabled us to produce socially and economically
balanced fact sheets, natural resource inventories and management
plans for species at risk. Using this knowledge building as
a base, we have been able to work closely with several members
to implement larger habitat
enhancement projects.

Species at Risk Conservation (SARC) Plans:
The OGC SARC Plan is designed to provide landholders with relevant Beneficial Management Practices (BMP)s in a timely manner that can be implemented with our assistance. With your help we can decide what actions are appropriate on your operation that will meet your management goals and provide benefits to up to four of OGC’s target species: Burrowing Owl, Loggerhead Shrike, Sprague’s Pipit, and Ferruginous Hawk. OGC SARC Plans are developed to create awareness about the status of the particular species, its biology, and habitat requirements, and to provide detailed recommendations for managing that habitat. We also wanted to offer praise for a job well done, as species at risk depend upon agricultural practices that provide suitable habitat.
Public
Presentations:
OGC also endeavours to communicate its win-win message through public presentations - reaching out to community groups, universities, government, and industry.
OGC recognizes the critical importance of youth education - helping to equip our future community members with information necessary for building informed, responsible decisions. To expand our reach into schools, Operation Grassland Community partners with the Science Alberta Foundation to distribute the education crate: “Grassland Gatherings”. As part of the important work done by the
Science Alberta Foundation this crate is lent to schools and youth groups across the prairie region.
