Developed in 1989, Operation Grassland Community is a grassroots stewardship program that works directly with landholders in Alberta to secure and enhance prairie wildlife habitats for species at risk. Operation Grassland Community believes that prairie habitats can be wisely used, ensuring the sustainability of both wildlife habitats and agricultural livelihoods.

The Parkland natural region of Alberta is one of the most developed in the world. It is invaluable then, that many have recognized wildlife conservation as an important component of land management and environmental stewardship. Much of the wildlife and habitat we enjoy today is due to the care and commitment of landowners like farmers and ranchers who have a genuine interest in nature, the outdoors and wildlife species. The Parkland Stewardship Program supports private landowners in the protection and enhancement of native parkland within agricultural landscapes and is a habitat initiative of the Alberta Fish and Game Association.
